The Boys & Girls Club of El Sobrante mentoring program matches adult mentors with youth between the ages of 7 and 17.
The goal of the program is to expose youth to a broader horizon of options for careers, education and the world at large and utilize this information in forming their personal, educational and career goals.
Mentors commit to meeting with mentees at the Club twice a month for a 1 1/2 hour session. The initial meetings will be team building, college and career talks, with opportunities for mentors and mentees to discuss the various topics presented. Additional sessions will include trivia games, board games, and other activities to engage the mentee and mentor.
Quarterly outings will be scheduled to locations such as Chevron, Pandora, UC Berkeley, etc.
The length of the commitment is approximately 9 months.
The goal of the match is to develop a mutually respectful, inspirational relationship.
All contact will be in a supervised setting.
All mentors are required to undergo a background check and participate in a 4 hour orientation and training.
Additionally, mentors are required to participate in a quarterly roundtable for ongoing training, feedback, questions and concerns.
An orientation will be held for mentees and their families.
